Should I visit a 1-star temple?
The temples we’ve identified as 1-star temples are still exceptional sites and were included in our guidebook because they have something special to offer. Please don’t neglect them. As will become clear in our profiles on these temples, many of the 3-star’s most distinctive features — continuous narrative reliefs, covered galleries, all-sandstone construction — saw first expression in a one-star. Visiting the one-stars, then, fills out the story and can help you appreciate the overall progression of stylistic change at Angkor. Plus, since many are off the beaten path, you often have them all to yourself.
